| 1 | This paper deals with morphosyntactic properties of Hill Mari approximative Numeral + Noun constructions in comparison with those including cardinal numerals without the additional value of approximation. The study presents a list of approximative constructions found in Hill Mari and an overview of their basic morphosyntactic properties. This article contains both synchronic and diachronic account, as well as some preliminary cross-linguistic comparison. We can draw a conclusion that the morphosyntax of approximative constructions in Hill Mari is governed by a set of rules which have already been stated in typology. Nevertheless, some of them operate in a different way (e.g. numerical value determining nominal number). Furthermore, approximative Numeral + Noun constructions provide some important data on NP structure and a strong evidence that measure nouns are part of a complex quantifier, rather than a real quantified entity.
